Born as an American company in 1892, Hamilton Watch Company grew through mergers and acquisitions. During the American migration westward, railroads for decades purchased almost all of Hamilton’s pocket watches. Then after World War I, when wristwatches came into vogue, the company switched its production to meet that demand and became the largest supplier to the WW II military.

Hamilton revolutionized the watch industry in 1957 by creating the first battery powered watch. And in 1972, it was a team of Hamilton engineers in Pennsylvania that developed the Pulsar, the world’s first digital watch.

The company was acquired by Swatch in the mid-1970s. Now headquartered in Biel Switzerland, Hamilton operates under the Swatch umbrella with a number of high quality brands like Tissot, Omega and Rado.
